Student of the Month - Kyle Guthrie

Meet our Student Of The Month – Kyle Guthrie

Our February Student of the Month is our Training For Success student Kyle. He was nominated by both his Essential Skills tutors, Katie and Zara-Lee, as well as his Hairdressing tutor, Frances. All tutors were in agreement that Kyle deserved this award due to his consistent hard work in every class he attends as well as having 100% attendance/punctuality. With a pleasant personality and positive attitude, Kyle is the perfect role model for his peers.

We did a Q&A session with Kyle so you can get to know our Student Of The Month a bit better:

What school did you go to?

I went to Loughshore which I enjoyed – my favourite subject was Art which really made me realise I wanted to train up in a vocation where I could be creative.

What made you decide to study Hairdressing?

From a young age, I’ve known I wanted to work in the industry as I love meeting different people and making them feel good about themselves. I am quite an artistic person so I knew hairdressing was the right choice for me.

What are you studying at BCT?

I attend Essential Skills every Monday with Katie and Zara-Lee where I get to study my English, Maths and ICT. I also am working on my certificates in Employability and Personal Development. On Tuesdays, I study my NVQ in Hairdressing with Frances where I do practical work in the BCT salon with clients and also attend theory sessions. All the staff are friendly and easy to get along with which makes me enjoy coming in as it’s a lovely environment.

Where do you attend placement?

I attend placement three days a week in Vermilion Hair which I love. I work with such a supportive team of staff ranging from graduate stylists to colour specialists. I learn so much in the salon, every day is different and I am able to apply what I’ve learnt in BCT to my placement.

How do you feel about Student Of The Month? What advice would you give to anyone hoping to win this in the future?

I feel so happy about winning this and it has motivated me to keep doing my best. My advice to anyone would be to keep working hard and show up to class/placement!
