NVQ Level 1 in Hospitality & Catering

Course Details
This one year course is for those who are interested in a career in catering.  The skills that you will learn are related to preparing, cooking and serving food.  Through observation you will demonstrate competency in skills and knowledge in this area of the catering section.

Course Duration: One year

Further Study & Career Options
On completion of your NVQ Level 1 programme, you will be able to continue your studies at NVQ Level 2 or seek work in the industry.

Other Relevant Information
There is a requirement to purchase protective catering clothing in order to comply with health and safety in the kitchens. You will be expected to wear a restaurant uniform when working in the restaurant.  A list of this clothing is supplied at interview with costs included.

NVQ Level 2 in Hospitality & Catering

Course Details
This programme is for those wishing to pursue a career either as a Chef or a Waiter/Waitress.  You will be responsible for preparing, cooking and serving food to customers in Chequers Restaurant to the highest level.  Through observation you will demonstrate competency in skills and knowledge in Hospitality and Catering.

Course Duration: Two years

Further Study & Career Opportunities
On completion of the NVQ Level 2 programme there is an opportunity to progress to NVQ Level 3 or to proceed into the industry.

Other Relevant Information
Students need to purchase protective catering clothing in order to comply with health and safety in the kitchens.  You will be expected to wear a restaurant uniform when working in the restaurant.  A list of this clothing is supplied at interview with costs included.

There will be educational trips during the two year period which all candidates are encouraged to participate in.  There is also a one off charge of £10 for candidates’ books that contain all assessment paperwork required for the programme.  Payable at the start of your course

NVQ Level 3 in Hospitality & Catering Supervision

Course Details
This programme has been developed for candidates who have completed their food preparation and cooking and serving food and drink at NVQ Level 2.  The course is designed for candidates to take an active role in the day to day running of the operation in a production kitchen or public restaurant.  There is a large emphasis on candidates taking responsibility of overseeing the staffing and distribution of work under the guidance of a lecturer in this important area of the section.  Work placement is a requirement of this programme and will be organised with your tutor.

Course Duration: One year

On completion of this programme you will have the opportunity to further your learning or pursue a career in the industry.

Other Relevant Information
Candidates on this programme are expected to set high professional standards and are therefore required to wear suits and ties while on duty in the restaurant.  The suits are generally dark in colour.
